Accelerated Master of Science Program in Mechanical Engineering (AMSPME)



  • This program allows qualified SIUC MEEP undergraduate students to take extra graduate level credit hours (400 or 500 level courses) during their senior year, or starting the second semester of their junior year for an outstanding student, in addition to their undergraduate credit requirements. By doing so, when they pursue their MSME degrees after completing the BSME degree, those credits will be transferred toward their graduate credits so that they may be able to finish the degree requirements in an accelerated manner. This initiative is meant to attract our outstanding undergraduate students to the SIUC graduate program in order to strengthen the current graduate program.
  • Students with senior standing and a GPA of 3.5 or higher will be permitted to participate in the program. They will be allowed to take up to six hours of graduate credit in each of the Fall and Spring semesters, An outstanding junior student is also allowed to take one course for graduate credit in the second semester of their junior year and then additional extra credit as a senior.
  • The Department Chair will write a memo to the Graduate School identifying the student(s) participating in the program and indicating the courses that the student(s) will take for graduate credit. Theses course can only be credited if they are beyond the 127 hours needed for the undergraduate degree and can not be required courses for the undergraduate degree.
  • Students will complete an application to the Graduate School and no fee will he charged for this application.
  • The students will he allowed up to 12 hours of graduate credit in this program that will transfer once they achieve graduate student status.
  • The student will receive a BSME degree as soon as they complete the requirements of the BS program.
  • Students interested in this program should make an appointment with the Department Chair and discuss their intentions as early as possible to facilitate entry into the program, and to identify a corresponding thesis research area and Faculty member.
