Meep Research Centers

The Center for Advance Friction Studies (CAFS)

CAFS has a budget of over $1 million which is sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the State of Illinois, and a consortium of Industrial Partners. It has extensive research facilities for fundamental and applied research in carbon-carbon and other composite friction materials, friction and wear mechanisms, thermo mechanical coupling in brake friction, among other areas.

Coal Research Center

The Coal Research Center supports funded energy research leading to environmentally friendly technologies for fluidized bed combustion, novel carbon base adsorbents, and utilization and disposal of coal combustion residues.

The Materials Technology Center

The MTC supports a broad based program in a variety of cutting-edge areas dealing with the development of new materials and study of advanced material properties.
