Mechanical Engineering Co-op

Magnesium Elektron, N.A. is a metal producing facility specializing in the production of magnesium alloy sheet and plate. The facility includes a continuous casting operation as well as several rolling mills and other sheet and strip processing lines. This position relates to the upgrade, modernization, maintenance and installation of production equipment.

DUTIES:

  • Under the direction of Engineering and Technical personnel, assist in the modification and modernization of existing casting equipment
  • Complete layout and detail design work on AutoCAD as directed by senior engineering personnel
  • Assist in the installation or relocation of production equipment
  • Work with vendors and outside contractors as necessary for project completion
  • Support Maintenance by pulling drawings and providing equipment information from engineering files
  • Maintain proper documentation for all engineering projects

KEY SKILLS and REQUIREMENTS:

  • Understand basic machine design concepts and have a mechanical aptitude
  • Demonstrate a solid work ethic and positive work attitude
  • Have an ability to interact with numerous people on a daily basis
  • Commitment to understand and follow safe work practices
  • Ability to use AutoCAD for 2D design (required)
  • Knowledge of MS Office software (required)
  • Prefer Junior status or above
  • Must be a U.S. citizen

NASA Internships

Undergraduate Student Research Program

NASA -- USRP

NASA-USRP offers undergraduate student internships at NASA centers across the United States under the supervision of technical mentors.  This prestigious program seeks rising sophomore, junior and senior students in the disciplines of engineering, math, computer science and life/physical sciences.  Students may apply for 10-week summer session and 15-week spring or fall sessions.  NASA-USRP provides students with hands-on, real-life research experiences that challenge, inspire and bring practical application to complement the students' academic education.  Stipends are $6,000 for the summer session and $9,000 for fall and spring, plus a round-trip travel allowance.  Application deadlines are:

            Summer         January 31, 2008
